Repair A Small Hole In A Vinyl Fence That Surrounds Your Property

If you have a vinyl fence surrounding your property and there is a small hole in one of the panels, repair it by completing the steps below. Once you have finished, add a fresh coat of paint over the repaired area so that it matches the rest of the fence.

Materials

  1. scrub brush
  2. bucket of warm, soapy water
  3. water hose
  4. lint-free cloths
  5. electric sander
  6. sandpaper (coarse and fine)
  7. flat board
  8. can of spray foam insulation
  9. exterior paint
  10. mixing stick
  11. paintbrush
  12. roller and frame

Clean The Damaged Area And Sand It

Use a scrub brush that has been dipped into a bucket of soapy water to clean the vinyl and remove dirt that is embedded in the damaged area. Rinse the vinyl off with a water hose when finished and dry its surface with a lint-free cloth.

Secure a piece of coarse sandpaper to an electric sander and apply firm pressure to the back of the tool as you move it over the damaged area in straight line. Once the vinyl feels smooth, lightly sand it with fine sandpaper. Use a lint-free cloth to wipe away any residue that remains on the vinyl surface.

Fill The Damaged Area And Sand It

Hold a flat board behind one side of the hole. Insert the tip of a bottle of spray foam insulation into the hole and squeeze the can's trigger. The insulation will foam up after it is applied. Wait a few minutes for the insulation to set before removing the board from the side of the fence. Allow plenty of time for the insulation to harden. It may take several hours for this to occur.

Test the firmness of the insulation. If it is hard, lightly sand its surface until it is level with the surface of the rest of the fence. Wipe the repaired area with a lint-free cloth to remove residue that was left behind from the sanding process.

Apply Paint

Stir a container of paint that is the same color as the fence. Use a paintbrush or roller to apply a thin, even coat of paint to the vinyl's surface. Move the tool across the repaired area in a straight line so that the paint is applied in a smooth manner. Once the paint dries, add a second coat to deepen the color of the repaired area. After the paint dries, the repaired fence will be restored to its original condition and nobody will be able to tell that a hole was ever present.
